DESCRIPTION: A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer includes those procedures, acts and processes, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, and has demonstrated competency.
Objectives: The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer will assure that each patient receives the highest standards of patient care at all times and must possess strong communication skills. There should be self-motivation to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Sonographer will perform all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician with the utmost accuracy and knowledge. The Sonography Technologist coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided. He/She is expected to effectively address problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems. It will be necessary to organizes a daily work schedule and perform related clerical duties. The technologist will assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonographic area. It is also required to perform related duties as needed.
Qualifications: Graduate of an approved School of Sonography. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-S or ARRT-VS) or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS or RDMS-AB) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT). Minimum of 2 year experience as an Ultrasound Technologist. One year experience in vascular is a plus. Candidates must possess strong communication and be able to work independently and as a team player.
